Who is Bill Cunningham? This is the central question posed by Bill Cunningham New York, a film focused on the eponymous fashion photographer known to socialites and fashionistas alike. Bill has a column in the New York Times, called On The Street, where he employs a kind of guerrilla approach toward capturing the essence of street fashion. Bill’s corpus of work is boggling, and his joyful attitude is infectious. This is a man who, at age 82, is still truly consumed by and in love with his work.
The story doesn’t end there, however. A handful of very touching scenes reveal a few personal details about Bill’s life, and you can’t help but root for this magnanimous, humble guy, in his lifelong journey after beauty; for the saying is as true today as it’s always been, “those who look for beauty, will find it.”
