A crew of Iranian, “daughters and sisters,” are detained while sneaking in to the 2006 Asian Qualifying Match against Bahrain, where Iranian women are expressly prohibited. Their indomitable will to push the boundaries of equality reveals an entrenched kind of misogyny that even the offenders of the film can’t rationalize for themselves. The film’s director, Jafar Panahi, who is a serial filmmaker and social critic, was arrested at his home in Iran on March 1st, 2010.
The 35mm print was supplied by the Global Film Initiative, a Bay Area organization promoting cross-cultural understanding through the medium of cinema.
